Rendering of the new HSSC facility

Building. Together.

A new home for the animals who need us most.

We're raising $3.5 million to build a 6,000 sq. ft. disaster-ready facility—because every animal deserves safety, care, and a second chance.

40 Years of Saving Lives.
Now It's Time to Grow.

Since 1982, the Humane Society of Sumter County has operated on donations alone—no government funding, just the generosity of people like you.

We've rescued thousands of animals. Reunited families. Given second chances to animals in need. And we've become more than a shelter—we're a resource for the community we serve.

Sumter County is growing, and so is the opportunity to do even more good. More families. More pets. More chances to make a difference.

When storms approach, we're ready—preparing space and resources to shelter animals and support families facing uncertainty. Our incredible foster network helps animals decompress, learn, and thrive in home environments. And when a new litter arrives at our door, we welcome the chance to find them loving homes.

It's time to expand, grow, and meet the moment.

A Facility Built for What's Next

$3,500,000 Goal

This isn't just a building. It's a promise to every animal in Sumter County that when disaster strikes—when they're lost, hurt, or abandoned—there will be room for them.

30 Indoor Kennels

22 with direct access to covered outdoor runs. Room to move, play, and decompress.

Climate Controlled

Florida heat is brutal. Temperature control and air circulation keep animals safe and comfortable year-round.

Disaster Ready

Backup generator. Secure construction. When the power goes out and the storms roll in, the animals stay safe.

Medical & Intake Rooms

Proper treatment areas for incoming animals. Quarantine and isolation rooms to prevent disease spread.

Training & Play Areas

Indoor play yard and dedicated training space. Better-socialized animals get adopted faster.

Built to Grow

Designed for future expansion—surgical suite, community vet services, and more.
